My principal shooting platform is this 1954 Cessna 170B aircraft. I use a Mamiya medium format camera that produces an original film area about 4.5 times larger than a 35mm image. The result is crisp detail in both print reproduction and traditional photographic enlargement.
I’ve been flying professionally in Alaska since 1984 and have logged over 10,000 hours of flight-time in the state. When I’m not flying passengers and/or cargo between rural communities or making a remote dropoff, my time is largely focused on some aspect of my photography business. Recreationally I enjoy suiting up for a bike ride or turning some laps at the pool.
When time permits, international travel is high on my list...especially in lower latitudes during winter months. I hope my pictures stir your spirit and imagination. If you haven’t already visited this great state, you should add Alaska to your list of vacation destinations. Once you hear the wolves howl at a pulsating aurora, sit in a camp-chair at 2 a.m. while the sun still beams or feel the ocean spray from the splash of a breaching humpback whale, well, all I can say is that your perspective on life will never be the same.
